Explore the Backyard
With overseas travel on pause, there’s no better time to explore our own backyard. Discover the adventure, beauty, and freedom waiting right here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
With the bizarre state of the world right now, we’re sure your 2020 plans have been shaken up a bit. Luckily our corner of paradise hasn’t felt the worst of it, we are feeling very grateful to be here in Aotearoa!
In the ‘old normal,’ we had many reasons to put off seeing our backyard. Social media’s influence and good deals led us to look further afield; however in these times, if you’re itching for adventure there are plenty of incredible options available right here at home that will perfectly satiate the wanderlust. Whilst we might be a little small in surface area, we more than make up for it when it comes to jaw-dropping natural beauty.
Our recent giveaway in collaboration with rab.nz was all about showing us how you #shredthebackyard. Seeing the stunning imagery that was sent in, we feel more inspired than ever to make the most of everything that New Zealand has to offer, including the incredible vastness of our Alps. How many times have you looked out beyond the boundaries of the ski field, or out the window of the plane, and marvelled at the expansiveness of our mountains?
Shopping local has never been more important. This year is all about making those things you’ve always wanted to do at home, possible. Get beyond the chairlift and make the most of our beautiful backyard with us at Harris Mountains Heli-Ski.
With over 3000 square kilometres of terrain in Wanaka and Queenstown’s backyards, we have more than 400 runs at our disposal. Ranging from sheltered basins, bowls, and wide rolling mountains flanks, through to steep and gnarly chutes; ensuring there’s something out there for everyone. The huge elevation change between mountain tops and valley floors means you can have an epic day of powder skiing high in the mountains, whilst looking down on the paddocks, hills, and lakes of home.
