Chasing winter with Harris Mountains Heli-Ski guides Mark Sedon and Peter Bilous Post
While New Zealand chilled out for summer, our heli-ski guides chased winter across the globe—from Antarctica to Alaska—proving the snow never really stops falling.
Ever wondered what our Harris Mountains Heli-Ski guides get up to on the NZ summer seasons? If you think they would go running for some sunshine and a beach break you are very wrong. These alpine adrenaline junkies hopped straight into their next adventures and you wouldn't believe the places they have travelled!
Our chief guide Mark Sedon is no stranger to big mountains and harsh landscapes. Whilst keeping busy directing the NZ Mountain Film Festival, Mark managed to find the time to travel far and wide this summer and 'a metre' was the theme he found each time. Each spot he travelled to it snowed almost a metre.
First Mark flew into the poles and ski toured in beautiful Antarctica in November, then onto Utah in January, British Colombia, Canada in February, off to France, Italy and Switzerland in March, then topped if off with a remote corner of East Greenland.Check out more of Marks “summer” adventures over at www.kiwiskiguide.com.
Mark was not alone in his quest for year round powder. With 25 years guiding experience under his belt, HMH lead guide Peter Bilous embarked on his second season over in Cardova, Alaska. As the lead guide and avalanche forecaster for Points North Heli Adventures Peter was faced with more snow that most of us could dream of.
Peter and his team access and monitor some of the most challenging terrain in the world, with the addition of rapidly changing Alaskan weather, this was no easy task. Cordova on average receives 2/3 times the amount of snow in comparison to nearby ranges, with up to 4 meters in a single storm alone. But when the weather was good, conditions were all time!
We feel incredibly lucky over at Harris Mountains Heli-Ski to welcome back such passionate and knowledgeable guides. Our team truly are the best in the business and we value their skill and love for the mountains.
